- Chosen by Voters Courtney – At 16 years of age, your chance of having breast cancer is almost zero. More likely your breast tissue, closest to the nipple is normally developing into adult features. What puzzles some young ladies is that one breast may start enlarging before the other so that at first one lump only is felt. There are several possible, but less likely causes of benign lumps in the breast, including a benign fibroadenoma nodule, a benign cyst, and even a deep skin benign tumor, including a lymph node. My best guess = developing normal breast tissue. Have your doctor check it out on your next visit.

- Chosen by Voters There are no foods or specific diets that have been proven to cause, prevent or affect the progress of breast cancer.Overweight, especially after the menopause, is regarded as a risk factor for breast cancer, so maintainig a healthy weight is a good idea, although rigid dieting is not – eating a healthy balanced diet is preferable. And of course women of all shapes and sizes get breast cancer.Several large studies have not been able to demonstrate a clear connection between eating high-fat foods and a higher risk of breast cancer. 4 years ago 75% 3 Votes 1 person rated this as good

Mine was diagnosed this past August…I had no symptoms at all. a microcalcification was seen on my mammogram (I'm 44)…the area was too small to be felt. A biopsy was recommended. Luckily, it was caught so early it was stage 0 when removed. 2 years ago The reason I ask is cause i have a lump and it's tender but was denied a mamogram because of my age (23). the doc said "don't worry about it" and i hope he's RIGHT.Thanks for sharing everyone!

Hi. I just wanted to tell you that what you are feeling is totally normal. I am actually at Mayo Clinic right now for my 6 month check. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 and a half years ago, and I freak over everything. From a headache to a hangnail. Email me and we can talk more. Here are some of my stats…*I was 29 yrs old when diagnosed and 8 months pregnant*I had 3 tumors in my left breast, the biggest being 4 cm*I have had both breasts removed and TRAM recon*I did 3 months of AC chemo, 5 weeks of rads, 1 year of Herceptin (Her2+), and I have 3 more years of Tamoxifen (er+)*I am surviving cancerTake care, know that all you are feeling and thinking is normal. Don't let people who have not gone through this tell you how you should feel and when you should feel it. They have no clue. Hopefully they never will.Sue Source(s): surviving breast cancer for 2 and a half years 5 years ago 2 people rated this as good wonderful to get a comment from someone who knows exactly how you feel and what you are going through, thank you

- Chosen by Voters It is extremely unusual; breast cancer is mainly associated with ageing and 80% of people diagnosed are over 50. Your chances of having breast cancer are almost zero.Even with cases of breast cancer on both sides of your family, you are not necessarily at increased risk. Only 5 – 10% of breast cancer cases are due to hereditary factors, the rest are random. My oncologist was able to assure me that mine was not hereditary and that females in my family were not at increased risk.Unless you have a close relative who carries one of the faulty BCRA genes, you are not at increased risk; even if they have it it does not mean you will inherit it and even if you do it does not mean you will definitely get breast cancer when older. You could have a chat with your mother about the family members who have had breast cancer – their relationship to you, whether they have been found to be carrying the faulty gene and how old they were at diagnosis; the younger someone is it diagnosis, the greater the chance that their cancer is hereditary. If it is your grandmothers and they developed it at say 50+, it is less likely to be hereditary. And if it is hereditary, it is still beyond rare for a teenager to develop it.
