Is it possible for a thirteen year old to develope breast cancer?

- Chosen by Voters It is HIGHLY unlikely. Breast cancer in teens is usually a metastatic process, meaning spread of cancer from another organ. If one has breast cancer as a teen, she is already sick from another form of cancer. Only 1/3 of breast cancer is in WOMEN under the age of 50.The earlier answerer is wrong….only 5% of breast cancer is truly genetic. 75% of women with breast cancer had no family history. Is it safe for a girl to be taking birth control pills if her mother had breast cancer?

- Chosen by Voters High levels of estrogen are known to increase the risk of developing breast cancer because estrogen stimulates the mammary glands/ducts (this is actually why some women experience sore, swollen breasts when they ovulate). If it is in her family history she would already be at an increased risk and most doctors would be wary of prescribing a birth control containing estrogen. The good news is, you can get birth control which doesn't use synthetic estrogen. It is either a progestin-only pill ("minipill") or some other form like the Mirena hormonal IUD (also uses progestin). Progestin can actually decrease the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer (estrogen has an even better decreasing effect on these types of cancer), and doesn't have any known effect on the risk of breast cancer. Progestin-only methods are more likely to cause depression, loss of sex drive, irregular period and spotting/breakthrough bleeding than combined pills. There are a lot of potential side effects associated with hormonal birth control, but most women do OK on it and usually the side effects go away within the first three months.Your friend would be best off talking to an experienced gynecologist and a pharmacist to get more information. They would be able to figure out if her risk of breast cancer is too high to use estrogen or if she is within reasonable range. 2 years ago 100% 1 Vote 1 person rated this as good

How long does someone with Stage 4 Breast Cancer have to live?

- Chosen by Voters There is no way to predict when or even if a stage 4 cancer survivor will pass. It could be as little as a few months. Or the person could come away NED (no evidence of disease). You have heard this before but here it is again:Hope for the best but plan for the worst (you may not have time at the end to get things together)Live for the day. You and your loved one continue to have a life and it would be a shame to waste it trying to control what you can't.Never leave anything unsaid. (you might not get another chance)I hope this helps you. The above formula kept me alive through my wifes bout with cancer. How would you know if you have breast cancer?

- Chosen by Voters You find out by going to the doctor. It can be found by mammogram, CAT scan, and confirmed by biopsy. "The tests used for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring, including mammograms, ultrasound, MRI, CAT scans, PET scans, and more". Worrying and not having lumps checked out only increases needless worry when there is no cancer, or delays needed treatment while increasing the chance of long suffering and death. What is the functions of cancer in a breast & the function of a female's breast?

- Chosen by Voters The biggest part of research is looking things up yourself and not asking others to do it. HOWEVER, I do want to help because this is an important subject. The function of the breast remains the same inside with or without cancer. The sole purpose of breast is for nursing a baby. Mind you, breast cancer doesn't strike usually until the woman is beyond or during menopause. So she wouldn't be having babies. But there's always that 1% that defies the norm. Not often but it can happen. so for most, they wouldn't be breast feeding. It was just an example any way and not meant that young women in child bearing age will get breast cancer. I just want you to know, the function of the breast remains the same. Men get breast cancer. Not as much as when women do and society associates breast cancer with women because I believe it's only like 4% of men that get breast cancer. As far as the reason, it's no different than that of a women. Men also have milk ducts. It's true. Look it up. They don't have as much estrogen of course which is the hormone responsible for the development and function of breast. That's why their breast are well,,,flat. so to speak. Like men, women also get testosterone. Same theory applies. All cancer start out with a cell gone awry. It begins to mutate, and infect other healthy cells and tissues. They clump up in a mass called the tumor. Why these cells do that and how to stop them is something scientists have been working on for ever. Cancer is not contagious, so that if by some quirk of nature a young mother did get breast cancer, the function remains the same. 99% of the time, women will have the cancer long before they feel a lump. Cancer normally doesn't show symptoms, this is why breast cancer as well as many others are so darn dangerous. It's a sneaky disease and it sucks. I hope this is what you're looking for. I hope your paper is good. Look up more information though and elaborate on the things I said. OK…Good luck. Source(s): Breast cancer survivor 1 year ago 100% 1 Vote

Are lung lesions common in breast cancer survivors? Is it usually cancer?
